If you’re looking to sell your home it is important that you have your property in pristine condition for the home inspection. Forest Hill West has asked our Strategic Partner, Murray Parish from Parish Home Inspections to put together a list of 4 items that are often flagged during a home inspection that are often overlooked.
1. Ensure venting of gas and solid fuel appliances are not obstructed and are in proper working order. It is important to be sure that there is nothing leaning against vents and the flume is free of debris. Along with that, ensure that your furnace has been recently serviced and that the top of your chimney is in good, clean condition.
2. Check and improve grading around the building This means you should ensure that things like window wells, underneath deck or steps, and drainage basins are free from debris (leaves, rocks, sticks). It is also important to check your decks or any steps for grading.
3. Check and maintain any trees or shrubbery on your property. You don’t have to have everything freshly landscaped, but it is important to clean up any loose or broken branches. Remove or service any visible roots growing towards your home and check around the base of the plant for erosion or ground cracks.
4. Check and maintain any fencing on your property Inspect the entire fence for any broken sections and replace. You should also look for loose or rotted posts and replace as necessary. Finally, ensure that any and all gates are in good condition and completely functional.
